PALAIS DES PAPES – A UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE

Hailed as the largest Gothic palace in the world, the Palais des Papes (Papal Palace), located in the heart of Avignon’s historical center, is a symbol of the church’s importance in the Christian Western World during the 14th century, The palace, whose construction began in 1335, was built in less than 20 years by two popes; Benedict XII and his successor, Clement VI when the Vatican shifted from Rome to Avignon. A large portion of the palace has been converted to conference and meeting rooms. The other portion is open to visitors.

The Espace Jeanne Laurent, located a stone’s throw from the Palais des Papes. Composed of four stone naves with vaulted stone ceilings, the space opens onto a balcony overlooking the Rhone River and offers exceptional panoramic views towards the Point dÁvignon and surrounding monuments.
